A new Kickstarter project is looking for backing to create a guitar that has no strings, with users playing it through motion sensors and gestures instead.
It’s called the Kurv and is made up of two pieces: a touch pad that sits in the palm of your hand in a similar way to how you would hold the neck of the instrument – sensors in the pad can read finger placement in relation to notes. This is then combined with the motion-sensitive pick, which plays notes when you strum it. The harder you go, the lounder the volume.
It’s all done over Bluetooth and is linked to a smartphone app on your phone, but can also be used to link to speakers.
The device has three settings – electric, acoustic and bass – and the app has 60 songs across those settings built in for you to learn to ‘play’.
Of course, this is all hypothetical for now as Kurv needs to be funded first. A pledge of £120 will get you a Kurv and access to the app.
