The latest Google Doodle celebrates Juno's arrival at Jupiter

Google needs little excuse to create a fun Doodle to fill its homepage, so the arrival of Nasa’s Juno spacecraft at Jupiter is the perfect opportunity.

Not only does the Doodle on the Search home page celebrate the craft’s arrival at the giant planet, it does so with a cool pixel art animation that harks back to space games of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Juno has arrived at Jupiter after a five-year journey, and will now spend several months attempting to photograph and analyse the planet, so scientists can find out more about its composition and how it was formed.

Handily, if you want to find out more about the mission, clicking on the Doodle instantly does a search for “Juno probe”.

But interestingly it is not the Doodle the whole world is seeing today. In Brazil, they are marking the 96th birthday of singer Carmen Costa, while both Algeria and Venezuela have special Doodles of their own today to mark their national days.
