The Raspberry Pi Zero, the new micro-computer from the Raspberry Pi Foundation is so cheap it’s being given away free with copies of its official magazine.
The tiny piece of hardware only costs £4 normally, and comes with half a gigabyte of RAM and a 1GHz processor, and runs the Linuz operating system.
But what is perhaps most startling about the Pi Zero is that those specs are similar to premium laptops from only a decade ago, and it’s free with the Mag Pi magazine.
As well as plenty of power, the Pi Zero also has mini USB ports to connect a keyboard and a mouse, as well as a mini-HDMI socket to connect a monitor. It also has a Micro SD card slot.
Not bad considering the whole thing is only 6.5cm by 3cm. It’s unsurprising then that it was soon trending on Twitter, and was selling out fast.
It’s not a hardcore techie device either – as the head of Raspberry Pi Eben Upton said in the above video, the whole aim of the computer is to introduce more people to coding, and make the entire subject accessible.
You can rest easy though, as even if that level of geekery concerns you, the Pi Zero does support the ability to play Minecraft as well.
