They have been a familiar sight in London and across the UK since the 1920s.
But in the last two decades the red phone box – seen as a British cultural icon – has become obsolete, thanks to the rise of smartphones, tablets and handheld devices.
LoveFone, an electronics repair shop, now plans to give some of the red phone boxes a new lease of life by converting them into tiny smartphone repair shops.
A first of its kind, the first phone repair outlet opened this week on Greenwich High Street and Lovefone is planning to re-purpose six more boxes in London.
Their aim is to have phone booth repair outlets across 35 locations in London over the next 18 months with franchise opportunities available outside London.
These tiny mobile phone repair shops also come with a free charging service – which could prove handy if you are out and about and your phone is about to die.
