McLaren releases its first fully electric car... for six-year-olds

The elite sports car manufacturer McLaren has released its first fully electric vehicle for an exclusive range of customers: those under the age of six.

The McLaren P1TM, like the famous McLaren F1, boasts a central driving position, and retains the brand’s distinctive dihedral doors (that’s a fancy way of saying they open upwards rather than outwards), so toddlers can really show off their style.

Speed freaks will be pleased to know the car lives up to McLaren’s usual standards, as drivers can expect to reach a top speed of 3mph in under two seconds.

But the designers haven’t stopped there. The diminutive automobile also carries an air-conditioning unit, automatic lighting and an MP3 player pre-programmed with a full selection of popular nursery rhymes – for blasting tunes on the long drive to the playground.

The environmentally-friendly machine comes in the fetching shade of “Volcano Yellow” and retails at a recommended £375.

One for the stocking then?
