If you have a Windows Phone the chances are you might have felt a little left out recently by the upwards surge in rival phones that can support payments by tapping them against contactless terminals.
Apple Pay has been around for almost a year, while Android Pay launched in the UK last month, giving everyone with an iPhone or Android phone from the last two years or so the ability to pay for things just by tapping their phone to a pay point.
Now that is about to change.
Windows Insiders – those on Microsoft’s preview program that grants early access to new features before launch – who are also in the Fast Ring (the top tier of Insiders) and use a Lumia 650, 950 or 950 XL will soon be able to get a new version of the Wallet app.
This version contains the power to make payments using the near-field communication technology (NFC) that powers mobile payments.
As well as the perimeters above, right now it only works in the US and only some cards are compatible with the software. There’s also no release date for the full version of this new Wallet, though with a major Windows 10 update due later in the summer to mark the first year of Windows 10, a release around then would make sense.
