Move over, selfie sticks! Vimble S could be the smartphone kit of your dreams

A new mobile phone accessory has arrived that could take your photography and videography skills to a whole new level.

Described as a gimbal (stabilisers used in GoPros and, more recently, drones) for the smartphone, the creators of Vimble S hope that you will never capture a shaky video or a blurred photo again, thanks to its three-axis stabilisation system that cancels movement in all directions, keeping the smartphone still even when your hands are shaking.

Made by DelTron Technology – a tech start-up based in Hong Kong – the Vimble S is compatible with iOS and Android devices and contains features like night photo enhancement and three-axis rotation that comes with a 320-degree tilt, a 320-degree roll and a 360-degree pan.

But its most important feature is its automatic panorama and face-tracking, where the camera will recognise and follow your face as you move, even when you are out of the camera’s range.

“Our dream is to bring professional videography into everybody’s daily lives,” says Rian Cheng, founder and CEO of DelTron Technology.

“Sharing our experiences of the world through pictures and video is now second nature, with over 1.8 billion digital images uploaded every day.

“Whether posting on Instagram, Facebook or another social channel, we love to share what we see. Vimble S puts the power in your hand to create beautiful visual memories with complete ease.”

The gizmo uses Bluetooth connect to your smartphone and comes with its own ViCam App – which allows you do some quick post-production edits and create timelapse videos.

The device, which can be charged using a micro USB port, has battery life of up to eight hours.

Peter Zeng, CTO at DelTron Technology, adds: “This isn’t just some fancy selfie stick, the technology we’ve implemented into the Vimble S sets your photo and video content apart from the mundane.

“Vloggers, extreme sports enthusiasts, travellers or anybody else can use features such as our intelligent face tracking to breathe new life to their videos. It does, of course, take incredible selfies too.”

A Vimble S prototype was unveiled at CES Asia earlier this year and is now available to back on crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

This isn’t the first smartphone gimbal to hit the market, but its makers say that the Vimble S’s longer battery life and near-silent motor makes it attractive for smartphone users.

Weighing 486 grams, the Vimble S is built with a standard quarter-inch nut on bottom, meaning it can be also mounted on a tripod, should you need it to.

Prices start at US$179 (£145) on Kickstarter.
