If you ever needed to know that New Horizons has “arrived” then look no further than the Google homepage.

The Pluto-bound mission has been honoured with an animated Google doodle on the day it reaches its target for a historic flyby.

And it’s fair to say that Nasa is excited to see the doodle…

… Just as excited as Google is to mark the July 14 event in animated form.

Here’s the full animated version of the New Horizons probe arriving at a spinning Pluto – doubling up as the second ‘o’ in Google.

After a nine-and-a-half year journey, the spacecraft will flyby the dwarf planet within 7,767 miles (12,500 kilometres) of Pluto at a speed of 31,000mph (49,900kph).
