Nazi zombies will make their comeback in Call of Duty: WWII

Call of Duty in 2017 is all about returning to familiar ground – the main game is heading back to its Second World War roots and now it’s been confirmed the Zombies spin-off is doing the same.

Having started life as a bonus level in 2008’s World at War, the Zombies universe has since grown to become a much-loved arc of the Call of Duty universe in its own right.

During an event at San Diego Comic Con, the 2017 instalment was confirmed as the return of Nazi Zombies, complete with an intense trailer offering a glimpse of what developer Sledgehammer Games has said will be “one hell of a horror experience”.

The game, which revolves around a co-operative mode, sees players join a team of art collectors on a mission to Germany as they attempt to recover priceless works stolen by the Axis powers during the Second World War.

As expected, that mission doesn’t quite go to plan as the group uncover horrific and sinister plans to create an invincible army of the dead.

Not that that has put any fans of the series off.

Following the cameo appearance of David Hasselhoff last year, Zombies again features big names in 2017, with Doctor Who and Broadchurch star David Tennant among the voice talent.

The announcement trailer is all we have to go on for now, but expect a gameplay trailer by the end of the summer – perhaps during Gamescom, the next big event in the industry calendar, due to take place at the end of August.

What we do know is that Nazi Zombies will launch alongside the full game – Call of Duty: WWII – in November.
