Apple, Windows and Google have been blown out of the water by a start-up in the race to create superior technology that understands human speech.
Newly launched app Hound is a voice-powered digital assistant that can handle incredibly complex questions and punch out speedy responses far quicker than its major rivals.
The Siri, Cortana, and Google Now digital assistants perform relatively similar tasks but take far longer to do so – and usually struggle to handle more complex questions.
SoundHound, the Santa Clara, California-based start-up behind Hound, claim the app understands language rather than just words and also recognises both context and details behind a task. The context part is crucial as you can ask the app layered questions with personal filters such as “What is the nearest coffee shop with Wi-Fi excluding Starbucks?”.
On the downside you have to launch the app to start it and there doesn’t appear to be a set date for international launch as of yet – although the company have said they’re working on it. Currently it can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices but only in the US.
