Facebook has set up a system allowing users to check on loved ones in the Paris area following a number of deadly attacks.
The function lets you see which of your friends are in the affected area, marking them “safe” if you’ve managed to contact them.
It also tells you how many friends are left to be accounted for.
When a friend has been marked “safe”, you will get a notification through.
Similarly, the social network contacts those who are in the vicinity which has seen violence and asks them if they are OK, before encouraging them to contact loved ones.
French president Francois Hollande was forced to declare a state of emergency following a series of terror attacks which have left at least 140 dead.
