A new autonomous smart bin has been created that automatically segregates and compresses waste has been unveiled by a Polish start-up.

Bin-e sees users place their waste into the top compartment of the smart bin, where it is scanned and then sent to the correct glass, plastic or general waste bin as needed.

The device is also linked to the cloud and is able to notify collectors when a section is full and to come and empty it.

According to Bin-e, the automated unit can help increase recycling rates for businesses while reducing waste collection fess as well as save labour and fuel by better scheduling collections.

It’s being targeted at business rather than private individuals for the moment, with the aim of making office spaces more eco-friendly, but could also be used at transport hubs and shopping centres, Bin-e said.
