As if the current levels of childhood nostalgia weren’t high enough thanks to the arrival of Pokemon Go, Nintendo is upping the stakes further with the announcement of the Nintendo Classic Mini.
Based on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) that was first released in Europe in 1986, the Classic Mini is a shrunken down version of the original console that can be connected to modern TVs that support HD.
It’s due to be released on November 11.
Not only that, but the console comes with 30 classic NES games built in – including Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man.
The system also comes with one of the classic NES controllers, and this can also be connected to a Wii remote controller and then used to play Virtual Console NES games on a Wii U or Wii console.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said: “We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo’s original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place.
“The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition is ideal for anyone who remembers playing the NES, or who wants to pass on those nostalgic memories to the next generation of gamers.”
The announcement was met with plenty of joy on social media, as well as a hint of suspicion.
Maybe all this Pokemon Go activity has triggered a breach in the space-time continuum?
