Naming the best video game of all time is never going to be an easy process.
It’s one of those subjects that is likely to throw up almost as many opinions as there are people in a room. However, this hasn’t stopped gaming cheats website I Want Cheats from asking its users that very question.
The voters’ top 10 includes some classics – as well as a few surprises – but it’s in the more obscure answers that you find some real gold.
Here are some of our favourites from the survey.
Now, while there are mobile versions of this game, we can’t help but think of the old-school board game – which happens to be much better than any digital version we’ve played, so straight away there’s a bit of an issue. Also, video game versions of Monopoly don’t offer anything different, new or exciting – if anything you’re reducing your experience because you’ve gone from playing it in 3D and in ultra, ultra HD (through your own eyes) to 2D on a screen. Hmmm.
An impressive statement from someone who chose to take part in a survey where they were asked to name the best game ever. In some ways we admire their defiance, but surely it would’ve been quicker just to type ‘Halo’ or ‘GTA’?
Indecision is OK – this is a difficult question for anyone to answer because of the scale of the subject area, and the breadth of content each user is likely to have encountered over the years. However, it’s cheating a little bit to throw in two answers when you’re only supposed to offer one. Also, these are two games: one football and the other wrestling, that are a million miles from each other.
We’re shocked anyone in the world would think this. Every game in that franchise was terrible.
A game that started life on Facebook but is now also an app on the Google Play Store, Hay Day sees you build and manage your own farm. Which is fine, but why play that, when you could play Farming Simulator 2013 instead?
For those not familiar, this voter is referring to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which we have to say does look like a stunning game, and voting for it would make sense. Except, as this person has alluded to in their answer, it isn’t out yet. We love the optimism, though.
Bonus points for being the only person to vote for a Victorian card game.
The childhood game of hide-and-seek in reverse where each member of a group of people gradually joins the original hider as they find them? That Sardines? Yep, someone did vote for this. They might be the same person who also suggested there are better things in life than games…
