Playing Pokemon Go as part of a university degree might no longer be an outlandish fantasy but a reality, with students at Salford University being encouraged to do so, it is claimed.
According to the Daily Mail, students on the business information technology course at the university will be pointed in the direction of the hit game, which launched earlier this year.
According to the course details on the university’s website, “mobile application development” is one of the core modules in the course’s second year, an area that appears the most logical place to discuss the mobile game.
Dr David Kreps, one of the university’s lecturers, added that the aim was to make the course more accessible and easier for students to grasp and understand.
“It uses various information systems that are accessed over the internet, a digital camera and a GPS location sensor,” he said, adding that using Pokemon Go as part of the course would get “a little more complicated” than simply trying to catch as many Magikarp as possible.
This is also by no means the first time Pokemon Go has worked its way on to an educational curriculum – Fresno City College in California has added it to its list of physical education classes, while the University of Idaho includes it in the focus of its pop culture games class.
