Robotics is expected to play an increasingly central role in our lives as technology continues to advance, and a new prototype has offered a glimpse into the potential future of medical care.
Belgian start-up BeWell has created the WellPoint, a self-service station designed to be used by patients as their first port of call when they enter hospitals and health centres, before you see a doctor.
The kiosk, which comprises a touchscreen and several self-service medical devices, is able to quickly and efficiently measure vital signs including heart rate, blood pressure and weight and automatically upload them into your medical history.
The process takes around three minutes and BeWell says it removes the need for manual data input and therefore saves time for medical staff.
The touchscreen can also be used to pose pre-analysis questions in order to speed up your consultation with a doctor.
For now there is no word on any potential roll-out of the WellPoint – it is being used in at least one Belgian hospital – but future deployment on a wider scheme doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
