The technology surrounding robotics has now reached the stage where scientists are able to make them walk like humans.
Researchers at Amber Lab, a robotics centre based at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the US which carries out experimental research into robotics, has created a new machine that can take human-like strides.
The DURUS, as the robot is known, uses “the same natural heel-strike and toe push-off” that are used in human movement, and is a far cry from the usually flat-footed steps taken by mobile robots.
Not only was DURUS able to prove its ability on a treadmill, it did so while wearing a pair of trainers, just to prove how capable it was.
Amber Lab hopes the robot could help with research into prosthetic limbs in the future.
