Carrying heavy luggage around is one of those less joyous things you have to do when you are heading on holiday.

But lugging your bags could become a thing of the past, thanks to a start-up company based in China and the US which is planning to develop the world’s first autonomous suitcase.

The aim of this smart case is to follow you around wherever you go, so you have both your hands free to do whatever you need to – like play Pokemon Go for example.

Called Cowarobot R1, the luggage uses a robot motion control algorithm to follow its owner.

It comes with a custom bracelet that will help keep track of the case should you want to use it autonomously.

And when you want to switch to manual, its wheels will automatically retract when you touch the handle.

The suitcase also comes with advanced motion sensors that will calculate the best route for the luggage to take if you want to go hands-free.

Along with its ability to avoid running into obstacles while in motion, the suitcase can move at a speed of 4.5mph.

The 20in carry-on size bag comes with a removable power source where you can charge your devices and then put them away in a hidden pocket that’s big enough to store your laptop.

Not only that, you can also keep your belongings safe with the bag’s electronic lock that can be controlled via an app and keep tabs on it using the bag’s GPS and proximity alarm.

And if you lose track of where your suitcase is, there is a “find me” function that will ensure your bag is always located where you can see it.

However, with convenience comes a big price tag.

Launched on Indiegogo, Cowarobot R1′s retail price is expected to be $699 (£528).

For the first 200 lucky customers who decide to pre-order one of these cases, they need to pay $50 (£37) upfront and the smart suitcase is theirs for $399 (£301).
