Spotify Codes are the new way to find and share music

Spotify has introduced a new way for users to share tracks, albums and playlists – codes that can be read by your smartphone camera.

Visual codes are being added to the bottom of the artwork for artists, tracks, albums and playlists, which can then be scanned using the new in-app camera Spotify has introduced, which will direct you to the content in question.

The music streaming service has said codes can also be scanned from flyers, posters and billboards as a way of accessing new music.

“Spotify Codes are not just great for sharing new music with friends and loved ones, they also present an innovative and exciting new way for artists, labels and brands to instantly engage with fans through Spotify,” the firm said in announcing the new feature.

“We’re excited to see the creative ways in which they are used.”

Spotify is coming under increasing pressure from Apple Music, which has gathered more than 50 million paying subscribers since launching in 2015, gradually chasing down the longer-established Spotify.

Spotify Codes are being rolled out to the iOS and Android versions of the app right now, the streaming service said.
