There's a new app which can tell you if your iPhone has been secretly hacked

Apple’s security features make the iPhone pretty hard to break into, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be hacked, especially if the device has been jailbroken.

If you are one of those people in a constant state of paranoia that someone’s accessing your device without your knowledge, you might want to download this app.

Called System and Security Info, the newly-launched app, created by developers at SektionEins, reveals everything about your iPhone’s security settings – including if it has been hacked.

It can be quite difficult to figure out whether your phone has been jailbroken (a process that allows users to tweak their iPhone so that it can run software not approved by Apple) – especially if it has been bought second-hand – but the app will flag up the breach.

And if you’ve jailbroken the device yourself (beware Apple may void your warranty if you knowingly do so), System and Security Info will check to make sure no malware has been installed without your knowledge.

The app will also detect anomalies in your phone to make sure security features haven’t been tampered with.

“The anomaly detection in this app tries to verify that certain security assumptions are still valid,” writes Stefan Esser, the head of the development team at SektionEins in a blog.

“This includes that code signing flags of running processes have not been tampered with, the app is still encrypted and not running in a debugger and that code signing still detects malicious apps and that no unsigned binaries are running.”

Esser says there will be more upcoming blog posts that will explain how the app’s jailbreak and anomaly detections work.

System and Security Info costs 99 cents (70p) and is available to download here.
