In years to come, all Twitter users will remember where they were when their social media lives changed forever.
At 3pm on November 3 2015 Twitter ruthlessly culled the beloved star icon, and replaced it with a little throbbing heart. And favourites are now called likes.
“Why?” we hear you scream through your intermittent sobs.
In a blog post, Twitter said: “We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers.”
It added: “You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite. The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones.
“The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people.”
But the news has come as a shock to Twitter users – who quickly expressed their anger, upset and frustration at the changes (on Twitter of course).
Like, people are really angry.
