Twitter posts may no longer be displayed in time order amid suggestions the social media network is preparing to undergo a major shake-up.
Reports claim the reverse chronological feature – which sees the newest tweet displayed on top of older posts – will be replaced with a setting favouring more popular or relevant posts.
The rumours did not go down well with users of the 140-character micro-blogging site, as #RIPTwitter became a top trend for most of the day.
The general concern seemed to be that Twitter would become more like Facebook, where certain posts are boosted over other newer ones, and lose its functionality to provide real-time updates, especially relevant for live events.
