A Bank Holiday reveller had a nasty surprise after he fell asleep drunk in his taxi home and got taken on a 20-mile detour costing him around seven times more than the quoted price.
Luckily for Daniel Kaizen, he knew he’d been taken for a ride – literally – as the Uber taxi app tracks your journey.
The bartender had booked a journey from Old Street in East London to Wood Green in the north of the capital – approximately five miles that he said should cost around £15.
But when he arrived home after what he thought had been a quick sleep, he found he’d been driven east all the way to Barking and around the North Circular main road to Walthamstow and finally down through Haringey at the whopping price of £102.17, reports the Telegraph.
“I nearly spat out my tea laughing at the route,” the 26-year-old told the newspaper.
He wrote on Facebook “Well, I was drunk, but damn Uber, £105 for a £15 journey,” adding on Twitter “Great start to my Easter Monday”.
According to Daniel, Uber has apologised and has promised to refund him the money asap.
This is not the first time Uber has been accused of overcharging customers. Another passenger Jonny Bee was charged £93 for a five-minute journey after he said he was wrongly charged for a luxury car.
