Uber users in the UK will now be able to add multiple stops to a trip within the app, the car hailing service has said.

The new feature will be rolled out in more than 40 towns and cities across the country and will allow the input of multiple destinations at once for the first time.

The ride sharing app is currently appealing against a decision by Transport for London (TfL) to not renew the company’s operating licence in the city.

Uber, which is able to continue operating during its appeal, said the new feature would “ensure more transparency” on fares for both passengers and drivers.

Previously, passengers had to make changes to their destination during trips in order to stop at multiple locations.

The company confirmed the multiple stop feature, which it is also rolling out globally, will begin to appear in its app over the next week.

Earlier this month, Uber filed documents at Westminster Magistrates’ Court appealing against TfL’s ruling, which had said it would not issue the firm with a new operating licence on the grounds of “public safety and security implications”.

TfL had cited concerns over Uber’s approach to reporting serious criminal offences, how drivers’ medical certificates are obtained, how criminal record checks are carried out, and its use of technology which allegedly helps it to evade law enforcement officials.

The car service’s chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi, who took over in August, apologised for “the mistakes we’ve made” and said the company had appealed “with the knowledge that we must also change”.

More than 850,000 people have signed an online petition launched by Uber, urging TfL to reverse its ruling.
