Amid all the commotion around the launch of Apple Pay, the banks partnering it and who could actually use it, some interesting aspects of the system slipped under the radar.

One of these was restaurant finder app Uncover, which, having already enjoyed some success in London at finding users tables at popular restaurants, is now an official app launch partner of Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is built into the app, and now users can settle the bill – which will appear in-app as you order – with a single press of their finger against Touch ID’s fingerprint scanner.

The new feature will see restaurant bills update as live, and Uncover say being able to now pay in seconds will make a big difference to the dining experience, for both customers and staff.

Uncover chief David Saenz said: “The time feels right to introduce mobile payments – the payment process will become more streamlined, enriching the customer experience but also freeing up resource for restaurateurs to serve food and wine rather than count pounds and pennies – it’s a win-win for all concerned.”

Of course this means less human interaction over the course of an evening, which technophobes will tell you is one of the biggest problems with technology.

However Uncover is confident it’s onto something and says the combination of booking and mobile payments “provides the ultimate dining experience of the 21st century”.

Uncover is one of just a handful of apps that Apple has named as a launch partner for Pay, and can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
