British-made adventure game Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture has earned 10 nominations at this year’s Bafta gaming awards, ahead of well-known franchises Metal Gear Solid, Destiny and Fallout.
The first-person mystery adventure game, which is set in an English village whose inhabitants have all disappeared, has been nominated for best game, as well as artistic achievement, British game and game innovation.
The British Academy Games Awards take place on April 7 in London, with comedian Dara O’Briain set to host.
PC and mobile game Her Story, an interactive movie where players have to search through footage of fictional police interviews in order to solve a case, received seven nominations, including for best game and debut game.
Hugely popular sequel The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also picked up seven nominations, while Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the final game in the iconic series to be directed by creator Hideo Kojima, received four nominations.
Big name launches from the past 12 months Fallout 4, Guitar Hero: Live and Destiny: The Taken King each received two nominations of their own, as did the latest incarnation of the FIFA football franchise, FIFA 2016.
Actor Mark Hamill, who returned as Luke Skywalker in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is also recognised for his voice acting work, picking up a best performer nomination for his role as The Joker in Batman: Arkham Knight.
In a first for the award ceremony, professional gaming in front of a live crowd – known as eSports – will be celebrated with the introduction of the AMD eSports Audience Award, which will be voted for by the public. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Dota 2 and League of Legends are all among the nominees for the award.
