This amazing video was created using the motion capture technology found in an Xbox One Kinect.
But rather than pick up moves used in gaming it creates a somewhat mystical look at how a dancer’s body moves when performing.
We’ve got to admit, we’re a bit awestruck by the beauty of the film which was created to explore how different technologies can be used to work together.
“Motion data was captured using inexpensive sensors and that data paved the way through an extensive number of steps. Once all the scanned point cloud data was combined, that was then used as the base for the creative development on the piece,” it explains on the project website.
The film was made by Maria Takeuchi, from Brooklyn, New York, who takes responsibility for the music and direction, with Frederico Phillips, for the visuals and direction, Samuel Blalark for the camera filming and support, and Jason Guerrero for the camera equipment.
Of course, none of it would have been made possible without performance artist Shiho Tanaka who dips, twists and bends in a series of flowing moves to showcase the project’s goals.
You can see more about how it was made – and compare Tanaka’s actual dancing to what you see in the motion capture film – in this equally beautiful Making Of Asphyxia feature.
There’s a website dedicated to the project – which is well worth a look. Find it here.
