Pope Francis is expected to make a historic visit to the US later this month – and to mark the occasion, Swyft Media have created Popemoji – an app filled with 52 ‘Pope’ stickers and 14 animated ‘Pope’ gifs.
The keyboard app comes with cartoon versions of His Holiness engaged in a variety of activities that include eating hot dogs, checking his Twitter feed, playing football, and visiting US landmarks like the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia and the Statue of Liberty.
It is available on Google Play and is expected to hit the App Store store soon and can be used with WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, iMessage, LINE, WeChat as well as a few other messaging apps.
Commissioned as a part of a “Good is Winning” initiative, the global Catholic network Aleteia.org say that they want people to use the app to capture the spirit of how Pope Francis interacts with crowds during his visits to Washington, New York and Philadelphia.
Organisers believe social media activity during the visit (which takes place on September 22-27) is expected to rival the hugely popular Super Bowl.
In fact, network providers are already anticipating a huge social media frenzy and are increasing coverage near the Pope’s stops with portable cell towers.
“We understand what kind of content millennials and young consumers want, and more importantly want to share, and we’re very excited that Swyft Media’s technology is at the centre of one of the biggest events of the year in the US,” said Evan Wray, co-founder and vice president at Swyft Media.
“What better way to bring such a monumental event to the digital generation than through emoji that capture the personality and sentiment of such an important figure.
“Pope Francis is a larger-than-life individual and the stickiness and viral effect of this campaign should be off the charts.”
Since the Pontiff has an official Twitter account, who knows, he might just favourite your emoji tweet.
