Tesco has joined forces with feature merging app If That Then This (IFTTT) to make sure you never run out of your cupboard and fridge essentials when you need them.

The new Tesco channel on IFTTT – a platform for linking unrelated apps so they can work together – allows users to create “recipes” that will automatically place selected items into their online shopping basket after a trigger.

The possibilities for triggers are endless but to give a few examples – perhaps some BBQ food could be set up to automatically drop into your basket when the temperature on your weather app goes above a certain figure, or a new carton of milk could be placed aside for you every time the calendar turns to a certain day. You could even get an email notification if a particular product goes down in price.

The IFTTT app is available for free on iOS and Android. Users need to sign in to their IFTTT account, add the Tesco channel then sign in to their Tesco Groceries account to link them up.
