Jersey’s ‘Lockdown Hero’ hairdresser is hoping to raise more than £2,500 for some of the island’s most disadvantaged children with the help of feathers and glitter.

Dominic Basilio won Express’s Lockdown Hero Awards, which were sponsored by TMF, in 2020 after working with the Salvation Army to set up its food bank during the first covid lockdown.

Shocked to learn through his experience “how many people needed help” in Jersey, Dominic has since been inspired to continue his good deeds.

As well as going on to play Santa and the Easter Bunny for local children, and starting a drive to collect 1,000 bottles to help raise funds for local special needs school Mont à L’Abbé.

Now, he has a new ‘Summer Mini Day’ fundraiser planned for 25 July at his salon, Studio Phoenix, to raise money for Brighter Futures.

“I’ll have stations set up with glitter extensions, braiding, feathers, mini manicure station etc and goodie bags to take home!

“The donation is £20 and they can have any/all of the above along with treats and a fun atmosphere Mini Phoenix-themed.”

The aim, he told Express, was “to make giving back fun while introducing charity to children.”

Dominic added: “I’m supporting Brighter Futures because they do so much for so many families, not just the children but the parents also and I know many people personally who they’ve helped and made a big difference in their lives.

“My target is 125 children in one day to raise £2,500, but if I get enough interest I’ll extend to two days to go for £5,000!”
