Alastair Chalmers led out Great Britain’s mixed relay quartet who battled to a bronze medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships.
They followed home hosts the Netherlands and Belgium on the first night of action in Apeldoorn.
The race handed out the first medals of the championships.
Chalmers ran a 47.20s leg from the blocks before handing the baton to Emily Newnham in a tightly packed race.
Newnham (51.90s) passed it on to Josh Faulds (46.10s) with Lina Nielsen (51.29s) holding off the attention of Spain to bag the bronze in a noisy Omnisport Stadium cheering home Dutch star Femke Bol.
Chalmers told Athletics Weekly that he was “over the moon” with the result.
“The guys have done an excellent job today, really came together. We were speaking about this before, it was always going to be a medal. We’ve got such depth and quality of the squad. We’ve really dug deep for this one and proud to be on the podium with these guys.”
All the GB team have a background in 400m hurdles.
Chalmers is part of the men’s 4x400m squad which takes place on Sunday evening.
